25 Change The Story For Refugee Women & Girls - Lebanon

Your gift to this program provides feminine supplies and health workshops for refugees.

Of the roughly 5.6 million Syrian refugees forced to flee the ongoing civil war, approximately 1.5 million are in Lebanon. Along with the turmoil of being uprooted from their homes, refugees struggle to access basic supplies. Language barriers and conflict-induced trauma causes additional uncertainty. MADRE works to assist refugee women and girls to overcome these challenges as they begin to rebuild their lives. Through workshops - which include topics such as, gender-based violence, early and/or child marriage and health and human rights - women and men are learning to change the stigma surrounding women’s reproductive health and perceptions of women’s role in society.

Success Story

Amina, an 18-year old Syrian girl, jokes that one day she will run for prime minister, as her perception of early marriage and working women has changed after attending workshops. She is committed to her education and her mother, who married at age 13, supports Amina’s decision. (Location and photo of individual not provided for security reasons)
